What is social bookmarking?
Social bookmarking is a popular
way to store, classify, share and search links over the internet.
Store and manage your bookmarks online and have access to
them from any internet connected computer. Social bookmarking
allows you to share and collaborate with a wider audience
to help you and others discover new and exciting sites.

How do I create an account?
To create an account at excites
simply go to the sign
up page. All we ask for is a username, password and email
address. After sign up you will be required to validate your
account by clicking on a link sent to your email addess you
used when signing up.

How do I add bookmarks?
There are three ways to add
bookmarks into your account. 1) After you have signed up and
logged in to your account go to the "add bookmark"
section, You can add a description, notes, and tags to the
bookmark before saving it into your account. 2) The easiest
way to add a bookmark is with the excites bookmarklet. The
bookmarklet can be found in the "add bookmark" page.
Place the bookmarklet in the bookmark bar of your browser
and as you browse the web and find a page you want to save,
click this button. You can add a description, notes, and tags
to the page before saving it. 3) When viewing bookmarks on
the front page or when searching you will see a "save
link" button next to each one, simply click it and it
will add that website to your list.

What are tags?
A tag is a relevant keyword
or term associated with and assigned to the bookmark you are
saving, thus describing the website and enabling you to classify
it easily for future reference.

How & why do I tag my bookmarks?
When you add a bookmark into
your account you have the option of adding tags to that bookmark,
these tags help you categorize your bookmarks both for yourself
and for others who search the site looking for sites that
interest them. You can tag a bookmark with any tags you like
which are going to help you find the site easily at a later
date.

How do I subscribe to a certain tag?
After you have signed up and
logged in to your account go to the my subscriptions section.
Here you can add tag subscriptions by clicking on the edit
subscriptions button in the left colum. Simply add as many
tags as you want and when anybody adds a bookmark into there
account and uses any of the tags you have subscribed to you
will be alerted to this new site. New sites are added to the
my subscriptions page in your account so check this page regularly.
You also have the option of requesting an email to be sent
anytime a new site is added to this page.

How do I subscribe to a members bookmarks?
After you have signed up and
logged in to your account go to the my shared bookmarks section.
Add the usernames of the members you would like to have share
there bookmarks with you. When any of these users add a new
bookmark into there account it will sow up on this page. This
allows you to see new bookmarks from numerous members on the
one page rather than having to view multiple pages to view
our friends newly added bookmarks.

How do members subscribe to my bookmarks?
Just like the way you can view
other members bookmarks, other people can view your bookmarks.
You can view the people who are viewing your new bookmarks
under the fan list headline on the my shared bookmarks page.

How do I make bookmarks private/public?
When adding a bookmark into
your account there is an option to mark a bookmark as private
or public. By default this box is not checked and all bookmarks
you add are made public, you simply need to click the box
to make a bookmark private. Private bookmarks can not be seen
to anyone except yourself when you are logged in to your account.
If you wish to make a bookmark private after you have already
added it to your bookmarks as public, simply select the edit
option next to any bookmark in your account and change it
to private. A private bookmark will have a little lock icon
next to it to show you it is private.

How do I search bookmarks?
To search all the bookmarks
as bookmarked by all the members simply type in your search
keywords on the top right hand text box and click the arrows
to search. To search bookmarks listed by a particular tag
simply click on a tag listed with each bookmark and view a
list of the most popular sites for that tag.

How do I search my bookmarks?
To search only the bookmarks
in your account you can select the mine option from the drop
down menu next to the search box and type in your search.
Another way is to use the tags listed in your account to view
the bookmarks you have added for a particular tag.

What are notes & comments?
Every time you add a bookmark
to your account you can add any notes or comments about the
site. These notes can be viewed by anyone so don't add anything
personal like passwords or usernames. You can also view comments
made by other people who have bookmarked the same site, simply
click on the comments link located under every bookmark.

How do I add notes & comments?
When you add a site to your
account you will be given an option to add any comments or
notes. If you would like to add any comments or notes after
you have already added a site, click the edit link next to
the bookmark in your account and add your comments.

What are the most popular tags?
The most popoular tags that
have been used to describe a bookmark in someones account,
for the previous 30 hours. You can view the most popular tags
here.

What are the most recent tags?
The most recent tags that have
been used to describe a bookmark added to someones account
at Excites.com. You can view the most recent tags here.
